The Best Night Cream For Aging Skin May Surprise You

November 17th, 2010 Posted in Skin Care Treatments

It’s unbelievable the range of options in skin care. Out of the hundreds of anti aging skin care products available, how do you pick the best night cream for aging skin? But if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably tried several that you just haven’t been happy with for one reason or another. Some are too greasy, others you can’t tell the difference even after you’ve used them for a few weeks.

And aging skin has it’s own set of concerns. Namely, your skin is getting dryer and your collagen cells are getting depleted.

So, the best night cream for aging skin is going to do 3 things:

1- Deeply moisturize your skin to nourish it. Well hydrated skin naturally has fewer wrinkles.

2- Increase your collagen and elastin cells. These are the cells that give your face structure, that prevent sagging, bagging and wrinkling. As you age, your body produces fewer of these cells and your skin starts to wrinkle and sag. But certain ingredients can cause your body to make more of these important cells so you maintain your youthful appearance for years longer.

3- Increase your hyaluronic acid (HA). As you age, your body produces an enzyme that breaks down this important acid. Losing your HA causes your skin to sag but if you can increase your HA, you actually strengthen your collagen and elastin cells. In turn, your skin will maintain its shape.

Besides these necessities, you should also look for a night cream loaded with antioxidants. Vitamins E, C and ingredients like active manuka honey will destroy the free radicals in your body that cause premature aging.

There are also ingredients you don’t want to include in your night cream.

Parabens have been linked to cancer, chemical fragrances can irritate sensitive skin and induce allergic reactions then there are those fake #’s like Yellow 5 or Red 33. Nothing good has come of these and studies show they’re also linked to cancer.

Plus, there’s no evidence these questionable ingredients help in any way by preventing wrinkles.

There’s too many good ingredients available that will protect your skin from the aging wrinkles and sagging skin there’s no reason not to go with proven ingredients like antioxidants, collagen boosters and penetrating moisturizers.
